A HUDDERSFIELD surgeon has been appointed to the board of directors running the two local hospitals.

David Wise, of Holmbridge, is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital.

But he has just taken on the role of medical director of the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust oversees healthcare for more than 435,000 people across Calderdale and Kirklees and is responsible for both hospitals.

David, a father-of-two, was brought up in Almondbury and was a student at New College.

Having studied medicine at Leicester Medical School, he began work locally in 1994 as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon.

He became divisional director In 2001and associate medical director in 2004.

Despite David’s hectic schedule he will continue to work as a surgeon – with his particular speciality in shoulder surgery.

He said: “I look forward to taking on this challenging role.

“As a Trust we continue to strive to deliver high quality care to local residents.

“And as a Trust we will work with our patients, membership council and primary care colleagues to develop the best possible services locally.”
