THE riverside area in the middle of Holmfirth is going to look a lot tidier now that a clean-up schedule has been agreed.

Kirklees Council workers will carry out 11 tidy-ups a year.

The programme was negotiated by Tory councillors Nigel Patrick, Ken Sims and Donald Firth.

Clr Patrick said: "I have been working with officers to find a solution to the problem of keeping the River Holme clean.

"Along with other measures now in place - such as the new litter bins, more frequent street cleaning, tidy trader and Holmfirth in Bloom - we are beginning to see improvements."

The first clean-up is set to take place next month.
