A POLICE sergeant has been robbed on television.

Holme Valley bobby Sgt John McFadzean was unfairly booted off the quiz show The Weakest Link, screened last night on BBC1.

Despite correctly answering three out of four questions, Sgt McFadzean was voted the weakest link in the sixth round of the popular teatime programme, hosted by Anne Robinson, inset.

But Sgt McFadzean was not the weakest link in the round, returning one more correct answer than a competitor.

Nevertheless the 54-year-old from Holmfirth put in a strong performance, answering only two questions incorrectly.

Indeed the dad-of-two, who leads the Huddersfield town centre policing team, was the strongest link in the third and fifth rounds.

But perhaps fearing a tougher challenge in the final rounds, Sgt McFadzean’s three remaining opponents voted him out in the sixth round.

In between rounds four and five, Sgt McFadzean managed a bit of banter with Robinson, who is notorious for her flippant cross-examination of contestants.

Of his job Anne asked: “Are you behind a desk?”

Sgt McFadzean: “I’m behind the front line.

Anne: “Is that why you’re shouting at me?”

Sgt McFadzean: “I’m projecting my voice so you can understand me.”

Anne: “In Huddersfield I’m causing a riot. What would you do?”

Sgt McFadzean: “I’d say: ‘Can we have the small ginger one arrested for causing the riot?’”

After being voted off the show Sgt McFadzean said he thought Anne would make a good copper.

“I’d be happy to have Anne on the beat,’’ he said.

“She would keep the youngsters in check.

“She’d stare at them and speak to them and they’d say: ‘Yes, Anne. No, Anne. I’m going home now, Anne.’”
