MORE than 200 Holme Valley Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and their leaders, marched through Meltham for their annual St George’s Day service.

Meltham and Meltham Mills bands led the parade to St Bartholomew’s Church, where a service was conducted by the RevJudy Kenworthy and the Rev John Radcliffe.

Presentations for services to the Scouts were made on behalf of Chief Scout, Bear Grylls, by County Commissioner Mark Stageman.

They were:

Lifetime Achievement Award – Honorary Scouter Laurie Minney.

Bar to the Silver Acorn for distinguished service to Scouting – Jacqueline Whiteley MBE.

Bar to the Award for Merit – Stewart Gilleard, Group Scout Leader 6th Holme Valley (Honley).

Award of Merit for outstanding service to Scouting – Janet Brown, Beaver Leader, 5th Holme Valley (Meltham).

The service was followed by a parade back to the Scout and Guide Headquarters where tea was served.
