CO-OP workers in Holmfirth are getting sporty for Mencap.

Staff have been in training for a year-long feast of fundraising for the organisation, which is their charity of the year.

Employees in Market Street wore a variety of running and racing gear to get the campaign underway.

Across the Co-operative, food stores, travel agents, pharmacies and even funeral directors will be involved. The money raised will be used to launch projects working with 20,000 young people with learning disabilities.

Carol Herriot, store manager at Holmfirth said: “We want to boost the confidence of these young people, so they can stand tall and hold their heads high.

“It’s the start of a busy year of fundraising and we’ll have a lot to do before we cross the finishing line, but it will be worth it.

“I’m incredibly proud to have Mencap as our charity of the year.”
