THE lucky winner of the 27th annual Holmfirth Duck Race has received his £1,000 cash prize.

Oakes man Stan Atkinson’s duck was first past the post in the River Holme at the popular fundraiser.

He received his prize from Adam Peel, of Huddersfield Pendragon Round Table, which organises the event.

It is expected that the race will raise more than £15,000, to be split between the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and local good causes.

The Corporate Duck Race was won by Icarus Window Film, which received 12 bottles of Moet et Chandon champagne.

This year the race was filmed for the BBC Songs of Praise programme and pulled in the crowds at Victoria Park, where a service with Hepworth Brass Band was filmed. It will be broadcast on Sunday, August 29. The Songs of Praise duck, launched by presenter Pam Rhodes, came in about an hour after the winner.
