HOLMFIRTH Festival of Folk chiefs have secured one of the country’s top folk pop bands for the event’s launch on Friday.
Leeds-based five-piece Ellen and the Escapades will headline the town’s famous Picturedrome venue to kick-off a weekend of folk frivolity. It is the first time since the new format festival was launched five years ago that organisers have managed to secure the Friday night spot at the Picturedrome.
The alt-folk band have played Leeds Festival and are booked for a host of other high-profile festivals this summer, including Bestival and The Green Man.
They will be supported by a number of other top folk acts – New Mill-based Steph Stephenson, Scottish singer Gary Stewart and fiddle-fronted folk band Ottersgear.
The concert takes place on Friday at 7.30pm at Holmfirth Picturedrome, Market Walk, Holmfirth.
Tickets are £10 and can be purchased from www.picturedrome.net , from the Box Office Bar or from Musical Notes, 7 Norridge Bottom, Holmfirth.
