YOUNG musicians swapped strings for sponges when they took part in a charity fundraiser.

Thirty-two pupils of Holmfirth Junior, Infant and Nursery School washed teachers’ cars and raised £100.

The children, who all play the guitar are travelling to the National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham in July when they will be among 200 Holme Valley children performing local composer Barry Russell’s Rainbow Project.

They need £470 for the coach travel costs.

Tomorrow the children will also give a concert for parents on and host a cafe to raise further funds.
