CARDBOARD boxes were transformed into birds and animals when children gathered to create a Holmfirth totem pole.

These two children were among youngsters of all ages who worked in groups to make a striking window display at Holmfirth library.

The event was held to celebrate the library’s summer reading challenge.

Children aged between four and 12 are invited to sign up to the scheme to keep them busy during the summer holidays.

They can join at any Kirklees library and only need to read six books over the summer to complete the challenge and receive a medal and certificate.

Holmfirth will be hosting two more children’s events on August 22 and 24.

The totem pole, made by the children, is available to view in the library’s window.
