A MAN assaulted his wife after they argued over what to watch on the TV.
Richard Stankiewicz threw a piece of a shattered ornament at his wife Shirley before punching her in the throat.
He appeared before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.
Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that the couple were together at their home in Longlands Bank, in Holmfirth, on December 12.
Magistrates were told that the couple had been together for 16 years and that most of the time the marriage had been fine.
However Stankiewicz had recently been suffering from mental health problems, which resulted in him being sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Ms Schofield said that at around 10pm the couple had been watching a film, when Mrs Stankiewicz decided that she wanted to watch something else.
She said: “This resulted in an argument which escalated.
“He picked up an ornament and threw it across the room.
“He then picked up a shard lashed out at her, causing scratches to her shoulder.”
Ms Schofield said that Stankiewicz, 44, then punched his wife to the throat.
Magistrates agreed to adjourn Stankiewicz’s case for a full pre-sentence report to be prepared.
He is due back before he court on January 26 when he will be sentenced.
