A MAN managed to escape from a fire which ripped through his house.

A West Yorkshire Fire service spokesman said the man was treated for smoke inhalation following the blaze at his house on St Mary’s Rise, Netherthong.

He was treated at the scene and the rest of the family were not hurt.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 11.05am on Saturday.

It is believed the fire started in the garden shed, and then spread to the back of the house and one of the bedrooms.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

It took over three hours for firefighters to put out the fire and make the house safe.

Appliances from Holmfirth, Huddersfield and Meltham attended the scene.

Firefighters entered the house wearing breathing apparatus.
