GRITTERS in Oldham worked all night to clear a key link road with the Holme Valley – while Kirklees Council did nothing, a motorist has claimed.

Holmfirth dentist Jane Noble said a clear divide could be seen at Kirklees’ border with Oldham on the A635 Greenfield Road.

Mrs Noble’s husband, Philip, snapped these pictures of the road at the county line on Monday amid her claims the two authorities must not be communicating properly.

Mrs Noble, who lives in Holmfirth but runs a dentist’s practice with her husband in Greenfield, said they were forced to travel the route to go to treat patients.

She said: “We’re fortunate as we have a 4x4 with snow tyres.

“But when we got to the border it was completely clear.

“A lot of people were coming from the Oldham side thinking the road was open, getting to the border and finding nothing had been done.

“It seems on Monday Kirklees did nothing.

“My husband spoke to an Oldham gritter and he said they had worked through the night on Sunday.”

Clr Dave Hibbert, Oldham Council’s roads chief, said: “On Monday morning we jointly agreed with Kirklees officers to close the A635 because of the dangerous, icy and snowy conditions, as the Yorkshire side was particularly badly affected.

“The weather conditions have been more serious in Yorkshire.”

The A635 remained closed yesterday.
