A MOTHER-of-two went on a drunken rampage and took her young child with her, a court heard.

The woman assaulted a police constable and a woman while being drunk in charge of a child.

Now the 27-year-old from Holmfirth , who cannot be named for legal reasons, will return for sentencing at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court next month.

The defendant yesterday pleaded guilty to five charges arising out of her disgraceful conduct on May 17.

Prosecutor Linda Fowler, said the trouble began in the Wellington public house in Westgate when she began drinking with a male friend.

She said she consumed a pint of cider and a shot of sambuca on top of some Diazepam tablets, which are prescribed to treat anxiety.

Mrs Fowler said the woman assaulted a female drinker and when a male police officer arrived, she punched him in the groin area and grabbed hold of his genitals.

Mrs Fowler said: “At the police station she seemed to have calmed down and asked for the handcuffs to be removed.

“She said she would ‘kick off’ if she was not allowed to look in her handbag.

“The defendant launched herself at the officer and grabbed hold of her by the throat, causing her to fall.

“She held her before getting on top of her and punching her a number of times. The officer managed to break free and hit the panic button.

“In interview she denied being drunk but admitted not being in control of her child, who was aged under seven.”

The single-mum also pleaded guilty to possession of a Stanley knife in a public place and assaulting an ‘accredited’ person.

In mitigation Bob Carr said: “She recollects being in the pub and having a drink. There must have been some confrontation with a third party in the pub.

“It started off as something and nothing but got completely out of hand.

“In interview she said: ‘I just can’t remember anything about it.’”

He said she wished to apologise to the detention officer. “I just want to apologise to her. I am heartbroken, having done that to them, (sic), people. Once I start I can’t stop.’’

Mr Carr added: “It is clear that the combination of alcohol and drugs have caused her to go completely off the rails and behave completely out of character.”

Directly addressing Deputy District Judge Tim Spruce, he added: “I think you can rule out custody, sir.”

Judge Spruce said: “It’s highly unlikely that custody will result...we will see what Probation say. This incident on May 17 is very, very serious.”

The court heard the defendant was a former drug addict who had been clean for two-and-a-half years.

She was of previous good character though she had been given a caution for battery in 2006. The defendant was granted unconditional bail and ordered to attend the court for sentence on July 4.
