A MOTHER claims she needed £3,000 of dental treatment after biting into a sandwich bought from Boots.

Karen Addy, of Holmfirth, is suing the manufacturer Fresh Naturally Organic because she said there was a stone in their salad sandwich.

Karen had been on her way to work in Leeds in November, 2006, when she bought a Bugsy Organic sandwich from the Boots store in the train station. As the 48-year-old sat at her desk to eat her lunch she said she bit down on the sandwich and felt a sharp object between her teeth.

The mum-of-two said on her way home she went to Boots and spoke to the store manager.

“They gave me a refund for my sandwich and took the stone to send away to the manufacturer for testing.”

Russell Jones and Walker solicitors are representing Mrs Addy.

Solicitor Jane Cooper said: “Fresh Naturally Organic, the makers of Bugsy Organic sandwiches, did write to Karen on Boots’ advice apologising and confirming that the stone must have been in the lettuce in the sandwich.

“They assure us that measures have been put in place to prevent a reoccurrence. Whilst they have also sent Karen a voucher for her next purchase, this hardly makes up for the ongoing pain, discomfort and inconvenience she has experienced.”

A spokesman for Fresh Naturally Organic said: “As a company we are very sorry that it occurred and we strive to make every product that we produce to the best of our ability.”
