MUSICAL talents are to descend on Holmfirth this week.

The 64th annual Holmfirth Musical Festival takes place in Holmfirth Civic Hall from Thursday to Saturday.

The adjudicator is Kirklees Borough Organist Gordon Stewart.

Organisers of the festival said entries are good in the children’s classes and the opening class (Thursday 5.45pm) includes six children's choirs which will almost fill the Civic Hall.

Thursday evening’s session consists of children’s vocal solos in addition to the choirs.

Friday evening’s session (6pm start) includes children’s piano classes; Saturday morning (9.30 start) children’s instrumental solos and songs from the shows. Saturday afternoon (1.30) adult vocal solos, ending with adult choirs. The evening session on Saturday (6pm) covers a range of classes, from folk song, more junior and adult songs from the shows, and includes the Rotary Club of Holmfirth Millennium Trophy Competition (£250 prize) for young people intending to further their musical studies.
