A nasty smash was narrowly avoided after a car rolled down a steep hill near the the centre of Holmfirth.

The Seat car careered down Cooper Lane early this morning.

But it smashed into a gas box preventing it from potentially rolling all the way down to the busy A6024 Huddersfield Road.

It is thought no one was in the vehicle and a faulty handbrake may have been to blame.

Police from the Kirklees Rural Policing team attended the incident along with firefighters.

They arranged for the gas supply to be made safe.
