A TEENAGER involved in burgling the home of a pensioner while she was in hospital has been given a chance to stay away from crime.
Mark McCartney was locked up overnight while his sentence was considered, and yesterday Judge Robert Bartfield said he hoped that as time went on the 18-year-old would realise how evil his offence had been.
Judge Bartfield said there was some hope that McCartney, of Moorlands, Scholes, Holmfirth, would move in another direction away from what his lawyer had described as “the big boys”.
The judge, sitting at Bradford Crown Court, said he was prepared to give McCartney a chance adding: “I hope that last night you had a taste of what the other path leads to.
“I promise you there will be 12 months inside if you don’t do it,” the judge told the teenager.
McCartney was made the subject of a one-year community order which includes a 91-day electronic curfew monitor between 9pm and 7am each day.
