RESIDENTS are being invited to look at plans to give Holmfirth a facelift.

The £60,000 revamp will begin next month and plans to revamp three key areas are on display at the Tourist Information Centre.

The improvements will take place around the Holy Trinity Church, at the corner of Huddersfield Road and Victoria Street and at the end of Hollowgate.

Work planned around the church includes, repairing and repainting railings and installing plants.

And the two street areas could have cobbles, pavings and railings repaired or replaced, and new cycle rails installed.

More than £6,000 of the budget has already been allocated to installing conservation style litter bins around the town.

Priorities for the rest of the cash are still being considered and some ideas may not go ahead.

Funding for the improvements is coming from the Holme Valley South Area Committee.

Clr Donald Firth, chairman of the area committee, said: “I welcome these ideas to improve the centre of Holmfirth. These small improvements put together will make a big difference to the overall look of the area and enhance the town centre for residents and visitors alike.”
