A GOVERNMENT scheme to help people who lose some or all of their income stay in their home will not be available until April, it was announced.

The Homeowners Mortgage Support Scheme, announced in December last year, has been criticised for giving homeowners “false hope”, by announcing the plan so far in advance.

The scheme would let struggling home- owners defer up to 70% of their mortgage interest payments for up to two years.
