THE first ground was cut at the site of a new Kirklees Council-run home for old people.

Work at the Doctor Lane, Mirfield, site is expected to take about a year.

The new home, with 40 en-suite bedrooms, will replace the Ings Grove residential home.

It will special- ise in providing short-term breaks.

Clr Dennis Hullock, who has social services responsibility on Kirklees Council's Cabinet, said: "This is yet another major milestone in the council's commitment to provide quality services for older people."
