DENBY Dale residents have taken to the internet to protest about a proposed new housing development in the village.

A website has been developed and residents can read about the plans and object directly on the internet.

The plans are also displayed at Norman Road Working Men's Club every evening from 7.30-11pm, except Thursday, and at lunchtime on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 11.30am to 1pm.

The website can be viewed on the internet at denbydale.com

Yarn spinner Z Hinchliffe has applied to Kirklees Council to build 20 homes on Bank Lane - four flats, nine terraced houses and seven large detached houses.

Local residents are concerned about increased flooding, more traffic and a loss of wildlife.

Mrs Gill Noppen-Spacie of School Lane, said: " We want everyone who cares for their environment to object now.

"We feel that 20 new houses will place more strain on the congested narrow lanes and lead to risks of further flooding.

"There are still people without carpets since the flooding last year."

The land at risk is the only remaining open space in the valley and wildlife experts are examining the consequences of disturbing the habitat, which lies in the Dearne Valley.
