A HOMES plan in Milnsbridge has been given the go-ahead.

Councillors gave their backing after visiting the disused land off River Street.

The number of houses to be built on the 2.7 acre site has yet to be specified.

A town hall meeting was told the space was zoned for industry - but no-one had ever been interested.

Planners had argued the homes plan should be rejected but their recommendation was overturned on the order of Kirklees councillors.

A plea to allow houses was made by Milnsbridge Enhancement Group.

Its members said the site had been used for tipping and that gypsies had camped there in the past.
