A bar manager has told how he was threatened at knife-point during a terrifying robbery at Honley Socialist Club last night.

The attack happened shortly before 7pm when Scott Hallas, 28, was opening up the bar area for the evening at the club in Jagger Lane.

Scott said: “I heard the door go and a man walked up to the bar then calmly pulled out a kitchen knife from his pocket or trousers.

“He said: ‘You’re going to give me the money. I tried to close a sliding door and he again calmly said ‘That’s not a good idea’ and came around to enter the bar area and pointed the knife at my upper chest.

“He handed me a green cloth bag and said ‘Fill it’.

“I did what he wanted and was then told to also empty the cash box.

Club bar manager Scott Hallas of Honley.

“He looked into the kitchen and saw the safe and I opened it and handed the cash over.

“He then told me to stay in the kitchen and fled.”

Scott waited a few minutes then went to his flat above the club and locked the door and phoned police.

He added: “I was worried that someone may have come into the club and seen him with the knife and didn’t know what he would do.

“Police told me to lock the doors and stay put until they arrived.”

Police are investigating the robbery and confirmed no-one was injured.

The suspect stole between £200 and £300 cash.

The robbery comes just 24 hours after two people raided the Jack Pearson betting shop in the village.

Staff there were threatened with a knife in the raid at teatime on Tuesday.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Both incidents are not being linked.
