A LOCAL minister has been honoured.

The Bishop of Wakefield is to install the Rev Joyce Jones as an Honorary Canon.

Mrs Jones, 55, is currently priest-in-charge of Shelley and Shepley and chair of the Diocesan Prayer and Spirituality Group.

She will be installed as an honorary canon of Wakefield in the Cathedral by Bishop Stephen Platten on Sunday.

Mrs Jones has lived in the Wakefield diocese for over 30 years and was ordained in the cathedral in 1997. She now lives in Shepley with husband Mark, 55, who works as a solicitor.

She said: “I have met many people around the Diocese and look forward to having a closer involvement with the Cathedral”.

Mrs Jones has three grown up daughters Eleanor, Charlotte and Abigail.
