FAMILY and friends of Briton Norman Kember, held in Iraq with three other hostages, were today continuing to hope they will be freed after a weekend of silence over their fate.

"There is still hope that these people want to release them," said peace campaigner Bruce Kent, who will attend a vigil of Christians and Muslims tonight on the steps of a London church.

Mr Kember, 74, and the other hostages are being held by The Swords of Righteousness Brigade, which had threatened to execute them on Saturday if its demands for all Iraqi prisoners to be set free from US and Iraqi jails were not met.

There has been massive pressure from Christians and Muslims alike for the hostages to be freed.

The Foreign Office in London said yesterday there had been no developments.
