BUDDING film-makers and screenwriters are being given the opportunity to launch their careers with two new schemes from Screen Yorkshire.

The Low Budget Lottery Awards help fund short film production.

The awards are run by Leeds-based Screen Yorkshire in partnership with Short Circuits, which aims to develop fresh talent in the region.

Film-makers can apply for up to £2,000 to create a short film.

Six to eight films will be commissioned over the next year.

Screen Yorkshire will offer professional advice and help with equipment and post-production facilities.

The commissioned films will be shown at key UK film festivals and Short Circuits screenings in 2005.

There are four deadlines, one for each quarter. They are August 31, 2004; November 30, 2004; February 28, 2005; and May 31, 2005.

Screen Yorkshire is also launching two short film script development programmes for new writers. It is looking for writers with a passion for film, regardless of background or experience.

Dates for both programmes have yet to be arranged.
