LIBERAL Democrats have selected the woman they hope will become Huddersfield's MP in the next General Election.

Emma Jane Bone, who lives in Kirkburton, was chosen as the potential parliamentarian by members of the Huddersfield constituency party at a meeting at Huddersfield Town Hall.

Emma, 32, a computer programmer, said she was delighted by the result and was looking forward to the challenge.

She said: "There is a fantastic team of Liberal Democrat councillors and activists in Huddersfield, working hard for local people in the community and on the council.

"We all know that the Conservatives cannot win Huddersfield and what better way to send a strong message to Tony Blair than for the people of Huddersfield to get behind a Lib Dem candidate."

Emma said she was a campaigner for the rights of older people, school children and university students.

She added: "I look forward to showing people that there is a credible, keen and creative alternative to Labour in Huddersfield."
