They'll be hopping mad at the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival.

For one of the many items on offer to discerning diners will be frog’s legs.

Chef Jonathan Nichols of Elland restaurant La Cachette will be at the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival with the speciality dish.

In keeping with the restaurant’s French and European cuisine, he will be dishing up the traditional Gallic dish deep fried and coated in breadcrumbs, served with garlic mayonnaise and pommes frites.

La Cachette, which is located on Brook Street in Elland town centre, has been in business for over 17 years.

This year the restaurant secured a coveted listing in The Good Food Guide 2013 and also retained its listing in the 2013 Michelin Guide for the 10th year running.

Owner Jonathan has recently taken over neighbouring business Bertie’s Banqueting. The business has also built up a successful outside catering division, which Jonathan intends to grow together with the core business.

He said: “We are thrilled to be attending the Huddersfield food festival again. Last year was such a success for us so this year we are back with an even bigger and better stand which will also be serving alcohol this time.

“Frogs’ legs are one of the better-known delicacies of the French Cuisine – every year the French nibble away at 4,000 tonnes of frogs’ legs – and we wanted to let the Huddersfield Food Festival goers have a taste of this slightly more unusual yet tasty French dish.”

Cathy Burger, Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival Manager, said: “Visitors to the festival always come with an open mind and are excited to try new food.

“It’s great when stallholders serve less common dishes and this year there are many on offer.”

The Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival is one of the largest free events of its kind in Yorkshire and brought over 65,000 people into Huddersfield last year.

This year will mark the 13th festival and it will be attended by more than 70 businesses. It runs from Thursday to Sunday.
