NINETY years ago this year saw the great blood-letting of the battle of the Somme at which the British and French mistakenly tried to wear down the German army by attrition.

Antony Hudson, of Ripponden, has chosen an apt time to look for the relatives of Walter Edwards, of Stocks Buildings, Fountain Street, Huddersfield, who was killed at the Somme on July 10, 1916 while serving in the 10th Battalion of the Duke of Wellington's Regiment.

Says Antony: "He left behind his wife Emma and six children: George, Harry, Nellie, Emma, Susie and Mary (Connie).

"Are any of your readers aware of any descendants of the family? I would be grateful to find any information regarding them."
