A HOSPITAL appointment prevented a theft accused man from attending court.

Matthew Taylor, of Shay Lane in Ovenden, Halifax, had been due before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

The 39-year-old faces three theft charges.

On September 8 he is alleged to have stolen two bottles of rum valued at £20 belonging to Aldi.

On October 23 Taylor then allegedly took eight cans of Special Brew and food from the One Stop Shop.

The following month, on November 19, he is alleged to have stolen meat worth £22.40 from the Co-op.

Magistrates were told that Taylor could not attend as he was in hospital being treated for an arm infection.

They agreed to adjourn his case until December 12.
