LIFE-SAVERS will be out on their bikes to raise money.

The Whiteknights is an emergency voluntary service that provides out-of-hours support for local healthcare.

Members are all unpaid volunteers, riding their motorcycles across Yorkshire and beyond.

They step in to help the NHS, which during office hours uses its own transport to move patient files, human blood and tissue samples between hospitals and laboratories.

Without the charity’s help it would have to rely on taxis outside office hours, at a considerable cost.

The Milnsbridge-based group makes emergency and non-emergency deliveries for hospitals in Huddersfield, Halifax and York and also aids Kirkwood Hospice.

All of its funding comes from donations, which is used to maintain the motorcycles.

Members will be fundraising at the Woolshops Shopping Centre, Halifax, on April 2 from 10am.

There members of the public will be able to see their bikes, learn more about their work and how they can become a member.
