A MAN who admitted killing his father - a former Huddersfield journalist - with a hammer has been given a hospital order.
Joseph Cooper violently beat his father Winton, 64, on April 15, 2011 at the Dorset cottage they shared.
The 24-year-old had admitted manslaughter through diminished responsibility at a hearing last year.
Under the order, he can only be discharged from hospital with the consent of the Secretary of State for Justice or by a Mental Health Tribunal.
Mr Cooper worked for several years at the Huddersfield Examiner. He lived in Honley before moving on to a successful career with the BBC.
