A HUDDERSFIELD hospital team is to receive recognition from a national body for improving patient care.

The respiratory medicine team at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary will be given a special commendation for innovation by the British Thoracic Society next month.

The team’s work will be praised at an awards ceremony in London for its contribution to respiratory nursing services in the area.

The HRI group support patients in their own homes including those needing long term oxygen therapy.

Sarah Cowdell, respiratory nurse at HRI, submitted the application for the awards.

She said: “We are thrilled that the service we provide has been recognised an example of best practice

“Our team aims to provide a personalised service that helps patients and their families to cope with respiratory illnesses such as chronic obstructive airways disease”

“We hope that publishing our work will help to increase awareness which will increase quality of care and provision of choice for patients with respiratory illness.”

The awards celebrate how respiratory health professionals work together to achieve improvements in patient care and innovations in service delivery.
