A HOTEL is supporting World Book Day by running a book-swapping scheme for its guests.

From World Book Day on March 1, The Innkeeper's Lodge hotel at Kirkburton will be leaving postcards in the rooms of guests so they can write the names of books they would recommend.

The recommendations will be displayed in the check-in area.

Guests will also be able to leave their books at the hotel bar and exchange them for others.

The scheme will run for a week.

At the end of the week all the books will be given to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for patients.

Innkeeper's Lodge manager Sam Kidd said: "Guests enjoy relaxing in their rooms and while doing this we want to encourage them to settle down with a good book.

"The postcards will allow our guests to see what other people have enjoyed reading and persuade them to take up the reading habit again."

World Book Day national co-ordinator Cathy Schofield said the event was important, especially after recent research revealed that one in four Britons do not read books.

She said: "The option of hotel guests being able to swap books is a good idea and I'm sure it will work really well."
