A HOTEL chain is offering to rent out rooms by the hour.

But those in search of afternoon passion for a fiver will be sadly disappointed by the latest campaign from Travelodge, who have sites across the motorway network.

The group insist their offer is aimed at tired drivers, rather than amorous couples.

And the offer - which applies to the Travelodge at Woolley Edge- is said to be strictly "one person per room".

A Travelodge spokesman said the aim was to offer facilities for drivers to have a catnap and a hot drink for £5 while using the country's motorways.

She said: "We will try to deter couples as much as we can, although obviously we cannot stop it.

"But when you've been in this game a lot of years you can usually get the vibe on check-in."

The hotels group hopes that their campaign will reduce driver fatigue, thought to be responsible for up to 20% of the accidents on motorways.

The spokesman said: "We are all too aware of the problems of driver fatigue"
