QUICK-thinking by residents prevented a potentially devastating fire.
A couple had left their detached house on Robsons Drive in Dalton last night when they looked back and saw a fire in the kitchen.
They ran back in and alerted three other relatives who were inside, including a small child, before using a blanket to contain the fire and leaving the property.
Two fire engines from Huddersfield fire station arrived at about 6.30pm. The fire had been caused by an electrical fault with a toaster.
There was some damage to the kitchen units.
But watch manager Chris Bell said it could have been much worse if the occupants had not taken action.
