Households in West Yorkshire have the one of highest risks of crimes such as burglary, theft or damage, new research has revealed.

One in eight households (13%) in the police force area reported that someone in their family has been the victim of a household crime in 2015, one of the highest rates in England.

The figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, suggest 4% of people in England were the victim of personal crime in 2015 and 11% of households were the victim of household crime.

Personal crimes include violence, robbery, theft from the person and other theft of personal property. Household crimes include domestic burglary, other household theft, vehicle-related theft, bicycle theft and criminal damage.

The Crime Survey for England and Wales, formerly known as the British Crime Survey, is a face-to-face victimisation survey in which people resident in households in England and Wales are asked about their experiences of a range of crimes in the 12 months prior to the interview.

For personal crime, people are asked if they have been a victim of group of crimes, while for household crime they are asked the question about themselves or other members of their household.

Crimes recorded by the survey may or may not have been reported to the police.
