A CONGOLESE teenager’s life was the main subject at an event to mark the start of Christian Aid Week.
Katherine Hogg, volunteer development officer for Christian Aid in Yorkshire, spoke about 18-year-old Nadia Kabula, at the launch in Huddersfield Methodist Mission.
She told of Nadia’s poverty-stricken existence in the Congo since the death of her father.
But, she said, Nadia was one of many whose lives had been transformed by Christian Aid.
She had taken a special course in tailoring.
Perpetual Kathewe, a Christian Aid speaker from Zimbabwe, also described her own experiences of poverty in her country.
Volunteers were out and about all over the Kirklees district, distributing red envelopes for the charity during Christian Aid Week, which ran from Sunday to Saturday May 10-16.
It was hoped they would top the £14.7m raised nationally last year.
Donations to the charity can still be made at www.caweek.org or by calling 08080 000 6006.
