SERVICEMEN and women who made the supreme sacrifice will be honoured at the weekend.

Silence will fall across Kirklees as they are remembered in parades and services across the area on Sunday, which are detailed below.

The Mayor of Kirklees, Clr Mary Harkin, will join a procession in her home town of Batley.

Deputy mayor Clr Margaret Fearnley will be at a ceremony in Huddersfield.

With heads bowed and to the haunting strains of the Last Post, hundreds of people will pay tribute on Remembrance Day to those who fell in conflict.

Bob Mortimer, chairman of the Royal British Legion's West Yorkshire branch, said: "It is important this does not die out."

HUDDERSFIELD Procession assembles in Ramsden Street at 10.15am for march-off at 10.30am. Service at 10.40am at Huddersfield Parish Church. After this the procession will re-form and the salute will be taken in Market Place on the return route. Procession will dismiss in Ramsden Street outside the Town Hall, where refreshments will be available .

HOLMFIRTH: Service at 10.45am in the parish church will be followed by wreath- laying service at the war memorial (procession Air Training Corps only). Wreath to be laid in church and then taken to War Memorial for ceremony at noon. Refreshments in Holme Valley Memorial Hospital after the service.

DENBY DALE: Service at Holy Trinity Methodist Church at 9.30am, followed by short service and wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial at 10.50am for 11am.

GOLCAR: Parade assembles at Manor Road J & I School at 9.45 am for march-off at 10 am. Service at St John's Church at 10.30am. After that the parade will re-form and march via Church Street and Knowl Road, for dismissal at Royal British Legion HQ, where refreshments will be available. Wreaths to be laid at the war memorial at Town End en route to the church and during the service. The salute will be taken at the Rose and Crown, Knowl Road.

KIRKBURTON: Service at the parish church at 10.30am. Wreaths will be laid in the church and at the war memorial following the service.

MARSDEN: Assemble at the Royal British Legion at 10.20am for march-off at 10.40am to cenotaph in Marsden Park for wreath-laying ceremony and two minutes' silence at 11am. Following the ceremony the parade will re-form and march to St Bartholomew's Church for a Remembrance Service. At about 11.20am it will return via Station Road and Dirker Drive to the Royal British Legion HQ for dismissal.

MELTHAM: Assemble in Carlisle Street at 10.25am for march-off at 10.40am to St Bartholomew's Church, where a service will be held at 10.45am. Following the service the parade will re-form and the salute will be taken on the library steps before dismissal. Wreaths will be laid in the war memorial in the church grounds after the service.

MIRFIELD: Assemble at 2pm in Lowlands Road for march-off at 2.15pm via Station Road and Huddersfield Road for a service and wreath-laying at the war memorial in Ings Grove Park. After the service the procession will return to Lowlands Road for dismissal. Refreshments will be available at the fire station and Mirfield Constitutional Club in St Paul's Road after the service.

SLAITHWAITE: A wreath-laying service will be held at the war memorial before a service in St James's Church at 10am.

CLECKHEATON: Assemble at the town hall at 2.15pm for march-off at 2.30pm. A service will be held at St John's Church at 3pm. Wreaths will be laid at the Memorial Park en route to the church. After the service the parade will not re-form.

HECKMONDWIKE: Procession assembles 11.30am at the top of Station Road for march-off at 11.45am to Green Park, where a service will be held at noon. Wreaths will be laid at Green Park. The procession will not re-form.

DEWSBURY: Procession assembles at the town hall at 10am for march-off at 10.10am to Dewsbury Minster for a service at 10.30am. After the service the procession will re-form and wreaths will be laid at the war memorial on Longcauseway. Refreshments will be available at the town hall.

BATLEY: Procession assembles in Market Place at 10.15am for march-off at 10.35am to the War Memorial Gardens for service at 10.55am. After the service the procession will re-form in Cambridge Street and return to the town hall, where refreshments will be served.

BIRSTALL: Assemble at 1.45pm at the Carr Street/Market Street corner for march- off at 2pm for a service at St Peter's Church at 2.20pm. Wreaths will be laid at the cenotaph at about 3pm. After the service the procession will not re-form.
