It's Friday the 13th and for some that can only mean one thing... bad luck.
Although it's not actually clear why, this particular day and date combination can strike fear and apprehension into those who believe.
Some think it's because Friday is an unlucky day and 13 an unlucky number, some because 13 is the number of witches you would need to form a coven and others because of the biblical reference to Judas.
Geoffrey Chaucer also described Friday as a unlucky day in his Canterbury Tales but, in truth, no one really knows how Friday the 13th came about.
While superstitious people will be hoping to avoid all chance of running into bad luck today, non-believers will be obliviously going about their business.
But how superstitious are you? Take our quick quiz now to find out - and don't forget to tell us how you get on.
