POLICE have asked young people for advice about tackling youth violence.
Members of the V-involved Kirklees Youth Action Team voluntary group, based at the Rathbone Centre in Huddersfield, spent an evening at Huddersfield Police Station discussing how such incidents could be prevented.
Insp Gareth Crossley, who leads Huddersfield North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Once we have gathered their thoughts and ideas we will be looking at how they can be incorporated into educational initiatives and operational plans throughout the whole of Kirklees.
“Although we do not have a significant problem with serious youth violence in the district, it is important we hear what young people have to say on the matter and be fully prepared to deal with it in the most effective manner when it does occur.”
The Rathbone Centre at Highfields Road aims to encourage young people to learn through education, training, employment and volunteering.
Youth volunteer development manager Linda Gillan said: “Our Youth Action Team are a diverse group of young people wanting to make a difference.”
