The medals and smiles of ex-service personnel shone brightly at a celebration dinner.

Around 60 people attended Greenhead Masonic Hall on Greenhead Road for the Huddersfield and District Army Veterans’ grand annual event.

Entertainment came from Raymond Ellis and Sue Christie, who sang a collection of rousing old time songs to get everyone in the party spirit.

Huddersfield and District Army Veteran David Woolley, of Rastrick, presented a cheque for £500 to Veterans chairman Major Stephen Armitage following his successful sponsored run in the Great North Run Half Marathon.

Committee member Robert Sugden said: “It was a wonderful evening and is warming to see people at this special event.

“Members aged from 70 to 95 have come along and we have one lady veteran present, Betty Greaves.

“We would welcome, of course, for more women to join us next year.”
