A MAN who was arrested after a baby was left locked in a car in a heatwave has been released with a police caution.
The 51-year-old was detained on suspicion of neglect after the one-year-old girl had to be rescued from the car in Huddersfield town centre on Monday morning.
She had been inside the vehicle, with all the windows up, in the car park of the Wilkinson’s store, off Alfred Street, for about 40 minutes when a staff member alerted the emergency services.
Firefighters smashed their way into the car by breaking a window to free her.
The baby was said to be unharmed, despite being shut in the vehicle on the warmest day of the year so far.
In was estimated the temperature inside the car would have been in excess of 20°C
The arrested man was questioned by senior officers in Huddersfield before being cautioned and released.
