SISTERS who set up their own beauty salon three months ago have been left counting the cost of a second break-in in three weeks.

Thieves ransacked NS Beauty and Nails, on George Street, off Upperhead Row in Huddersfield town centre – and snatched £100 of cash from a charity collection tin.

The business was one of two in the Standard House building that was targeted overnight on Monday.

It came less than three weeks after burglars used a fire extinguisher as a battering ram to break into the beauty salon on December 22.

Nazia Khalid, 27, who runs the business with her sister Sadia, 22, said: “Unfortunately I’d left some cash in the till on the first occasion and they took about £200.

“They didn’t find much this time round, but they messed up the place, broke a lot of glasses and stuff.

“I feel devastated.”

The sisters, from Marsh, spent years saving up and spent as much as £30,000 on refurbishing the salon.

They cancelled all their appointments yesterday while police carried out a forensic examination of the premises.

Nazia added: “Having my own salon is something I’ve always wanted. It’s a new business, we are struggling to build up custom and then we have these two break-ins.

“It gets you down.”

The sisters’ father, Khalid Mehmood, said he was concerned for their safety as they often had to work late to treat clients who came after office hours.

He said: “I don’t want them working on their own, I’m thinking about getting somebody in to accompany them on a night.

“They are in the heart of town and yet there are no security cameras around here.”

Travail Employment Group, which is based in the same building, was also broken into.

Thieves disabled the electrics controlling a metal shutter installed for extra security before wrenching it open and then smashing through the door.

Regional support manager Carol Mosby said they had stolen a small amount of cash.

“It’s petty criminals,” she said.

“As a business, if they had touched the computers we would have been in real trouble but they left everything else alone.

“It’s going to cost us hundreds of pounds to sort out and it’s inconvenient, but apart from anything else the worst thing is the feeling that the building is vulnerable.”

Building landlord Khalid Pervaiz said he was considering improving security at the premises.

“We are proposing to put security cameras up and install shutters on the door,” he said.
