Police have said that a post-mortem revealed dog attack victim David Ellam died of his injuries.
Detectives are continuing with their investigation following the 52-year-old’s death on Monday evening.
A spokesperson said today: “A post mortem examination was carried out yesterday and has found that Mr Ellam died as a result of multiple injuries.”
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Swift of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team said: “Mr Ellam died following multiple injuries sustained during the incident on Monday morning and our enquiries are continuing in to circumstances.
“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area who may have not yet spoken to police, who has any relevant information to come forward.”
“We appreciate there will be understandable concern following this tragic event. There continues to be an increased visible policing presence in the area to offer reassurance to the community, and I would urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to officers.”
Anyone who has any information relating to police enquiries is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team via 101.

Bad news if you get the 393:
Fire in Thornton Lodge
There was a small house fire in Thornton Lodge last night. Fire crews were called to extinguish a contained blaze at a house on Springdale Street after smouldering cigarettes in a wastepaper bin caught fire.
There was no one in the property at the time so no-one was injured. Two engines attended after the alarm was raised by a smoke detector and neighbours called the fire brigade.
Area cordoned off in Dewsbury
We’ve had reports an area around the Station Hotel in Dewsbury was cordoned off last night by police.
We don’t know whether or not this is connected to arrests made near the junction of Headfield Road and Lock Street following a gunshot heard in Crosland Moor.
Police have said the cordons were not related to the pub.
We will keep you updated.
