Skip fire at Deighton Centre

Firefighters from Rastrick attended a fire at the Deighton Centre in Deighton last night.

They said they were called to the scene after reports of a fire in a skip at 10.30pm and sent one appliance.

There was a gala on site over the weekend and the skipp was full so it took all the water in the appliance, plus a second tank after a refill, to extinguish the blaze.

In total firefighters were on the scene for around an hour and a half.

Huddersfield firefighter on state of the Golcar fire

Huddersfield watch commander Matthew Green said:

We were out at Scapegoat Hill again this morning from 5am to carry out further damping down. We came away at 11am and we’re going to revisit it this afternoon. It’s a bit of a fingers crossed moment hoping it will stay out but grass being grass, you can never be sure.

A warning regarding the tinder-like conditions at the moment - people need to be very careful whether it’s a barbecue in the back garden or out on the moorlands, the slightest spark can go off and people’s houses and sheds can be at risk.

Great effort!

West Yorkshire firefighters have been supporting their Greater Manchester colleagues on Saddleworth Moor over the last few days.

They’ve put in an incredible shift as the fight continues.
