TWO BROTHERS are warming up to take part in a 12-hour weight-training challenge.

Kyle and Bradley Ward hope to raise more than £1,000 for good causes when they flex their muscles non-stop later this month.

The pair will be taking part in the gruelling mission at Maloney’s gym in Marsh this Friday.

Kyle, 41, of Linthwaite, came up with idea to raise money for his eight-year-old godson Kyle Crossland.

The Lancashire youngster suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy – a deadly muscle wasting illness.

Dad-of-three Kyle hopes to raise enough cash to send his godson on the holiday of a lifetime to Florida.

He said: “I work with children who have the same disease so have got a good understanding about how Kyle’s illness is going to progress.

“It is likely he will be confined to a wheelchair in the next two years.

“Once that happens life is going to become so different.

“I want to get him to Florida to swim with the dolphins while he can really appreciate them.

“I just want to do something for him.”

Youngster Kyle lives in Failsworth, near Oldham, with his parents Steve and Helen Crossland.

His progressive condition means the muscles in his body will gradually tighten and deteriorate, affecting his heart eventually.

Godfather Kyle, who works at Elm Grove children’s home in Heckmondwike, said: “It is horrible.

“He understands that he can’t join in with children his own age.

“He can’t run without falling. He can’t even jump on the spot because of the condition.

“He finds it hard climbing the stairs. He is now using a wheelchair 25% of the time.

“Six months ago it was only 5% – that’s how quickly it is progressing.

“It really frustrates him at times, but he just gets on with it.”

The two Huddersfield brothers – who have been gym-goers for about 15 years – plan to weight-train continuously for 12 hours.

They will start their mission at 9am on November 27 and finish at 9pm.

Kyle said: “It is going to be very hard. The plan is to do an hour of training then have 15 minutes rest time to take on some food. We also plan to do some cardio in between.”

Bradley, 45, of Hartshead, will be at his side throughout the challenge.

He will be raising money for the Laura Crane Trust and the Huddersfield Giants Talent Builder fund.
