Chef and restaurateur Barrington Douglas has invested £20,000 to open a new deli in Huddersfield.
Barrington, who runs the Caribbean-inspired Discovery Bay restaurant in the town, has opened Barrington’s in St Peter’s Street.
Earlier this year Barrington, 46, launched his own range of pies and sauces, British food with a Jamaican twist.
The range, called Barrington’s, includes jerk pork pie, curry chicken pie, Caribbean sauces and chutneys.
Barrington launched his pies at the Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival in August and sales have grown so much he decided to open a shop.
He has revamped the premises and taken on three new staff, planning to open six days a week.
Barrington joined in with this last weekend’s Festival of Light in Huddersfield and was serving jerk pie and peas to hungry festival-goers.
“The food has gone down really well and sales have taken off,” said Barrington.
“We were selling through the restaurant but it just got too busy so we had to invest in the deli.”
Barrington, who has appeared with TV chefs Gary Rhodes, Gordon Ramsey and Marco Pierre White, is aiming to build his brand and eventually launch into the major supermarkets.
