THEY danced, they bounced, they pushed prams and they pelted their teachers with wet sponges.

Hundreds of people turned fund-raisers for the day as Children In Need fever swept Huddersfield.

Dozens of firms, schools and organisations did their bit for the annual fundraising marathon, which raises millions of pounds.

l New mums paraded through Huddersfield town centre in a sponsored pram push.

It was by organised by Rebecca Rooke and Tanya Stagg, who met at a pregnancy pilates class in Armitage Bridge.

Rebecca lives in Golcar and her brother, 21-year-old Kieran Parnaby and his 19-year-old friend, Phil More, both travelled down from Newcastle to shake the collection tins.

“People were very generous,” said Rebecca.

l Staff and children dressed up as Pudsey Bear at Little Angels day nursery in Lowerhouses. They each gave £1 to take part in the fancy dress day.

l Students raised money for Children In Need at Huddersfield New College.

They had a bun sale, fancy dress, face-painting and a raffle.

l Little Daniel Wood gave money he was saving for a Batman costume to Children In Need. The four-year-old gave £13.70 to the charity at Denby Dale Nursery School.

Mum Marcia Bowker said: “He said out of the blue that he’d like to give the money to Children in Need.

“I think it was sweet.”

l Hunky hotel workers got in a lather to raise money.

Bar staff Roy Gilpin and James Boothroyd and health and safety manager Adrian Attey stripped off their tops to wash cars to raise money for Children In Need at the Pennine Manor Hotel, Scapegoat Hill.

The fun continued with a game of bingo and staff dressed up.

l Children from Jo Jingles Music School took part in a sponsored singalong for Children In Need.

They sang at Waring Green Community Centre in Brighouse.

l Physiotherapy students at Huddersfield University staged a 12-hour bounce-a-thon on a trampoline in the Harold Wilson Building.

They raised £720.

l Children dressed in spots and stripes for a fun day at Portland House Nursery, Lindley.

l Pupils and staff at Moorlands Primary School, Mount, raised more than £300 with a fancy dress day - including teachers dressing as pupils. The children wore bandanas and sold buns.

l Children at Bradford Girls' Grammar School, the school which Pudsey Bear’s creator, Joanne Pidgeon went to from 1961 to 1969, embraced the spirit of the day.

Many preparatory school pupils from Huddersfield dressed up in Disney costumes that they paid £1 to wear throughout the day.

l Sainsbury’s staff at the Shore Head store expect to have raised £2,000 for Children In Need.

The store had two dancing teddies in the foyer and buckets at the till for customers to make donations.

l Netherton Pre- School youngsters dressed up in fancy dress and also decorated Pudsey Bear biscuits to raise money for Children In Need.

Twenty-four children dressed up in fancy dress and bought Pudsey Bears to raise money for the charity.

l Children at Meltham C of E Primary School made and wore bandanas for Children In Need Day.

l Huddersfield Sports Centre duty manager John Cockroft cycled 500 miles on a exercise bike to raise money for the charity.

Other visitors took part in shorter rides.

l Staff at The Zone fitness centre joined players from Huddersfield Town and the Giants to complete a cross-training challenge on gym equipment to raise cash.
