IT was a special day for Huddersfield College’s Class of 1958.

Former students were given access into the former college building, at New North Road, to mark their 50th annual reunion celebration.

Around 21 people turned up for the event. They walked around the school and into old classrooms and reminisced about their days as pupils at the college half a century ago.

The former classmates came from all over the country for the reunion, with one man even coming all the way from New Zealand.

After the tour of the college on Saturday afternoon, the group took the time to catch up over a reunion dinner at Huddersfield Golf Club.

John Wardle, one of the organisers of the event and a former student at the College, said: “It’s a very special day for us as we are celebrating our 50th reunion, and it is just fantastic we have been given access into the school.

“Most of us haven’t seen each other in many, many years, so it’s great catching up after all this time.”

The building has in recent years been an annexe of Huddersfield Technical College, which recently became Kirklees College. Huddersfield College moved to Salendine Nook many years ago, becoming Huddersfield New College.
